Commercial Awareness

default-16x9

As part of revision to current provisions for Development, Learning and Training we are looking to update Managers training on Commercial / Strategic Awareness. For this we are looking to investigate provisions within other large organisations and also to look into alternative sources of training e.g. on-line learning.

We would also be interested in any feedback you may have on Commercial Awareness Programmes you have carried out in the past, for example what worked, what didn’t work, what was the feedback from candidates on the courses etc.

Please can you e-mail any information you feel may be relevant to carole.stoddart@scottishamicable.co.uk, if possible by Wednesday 18th of April at 12 o’clock. I would be particularly interested in any recommendations you may be able to make about consultants or organisations which you have found beneficial in delivering this training. Thank you.

    RESPONSE:

Can you say a bit more about what you mean when you say ‘commercial and strategic awareness’. It’s just such a big topic and I wondered if you knew any more specifically what kind of issues within these topics you would like addressed?

We would recommend units from the strategic Manaagement NVQ to be the starting point. That way the subjects are relevant for your company strategy and each manager will be able to learn strategic development as a personal development as they progress. If you want some more info or further details on the standards please phone Sue or Bob on 0870 241 3998 Monday to Friday 8.30-6.00. E-learning and web cam options are available. This method also is never static as the subject matter will be your own discussion points and concerns at any given point in your training programme.

We agree with the comment below regarding the NVQ Levl 5 in Strategic Management but reccomend that you also look at the Level 5 in Operations Management. Together they will provide a better overall picture to give you a benchmark to work from than just the strategy alone. Depending on the levels that yoour people are working at you may even find it more beneficial to lower your sights and also look at the Level 4 as a base.

  4. Further definition of Commercial Awareness
Our business has defined commercial awareness as a greater awareness of the business environment in order to make more strategic decisions based on their implications. It will include some financial awareness, marketing etc. It will be aimed largely at Senior Managers although there may be some general training for all employees.
