Secretaries are better trained and more likely to be tipped for executive roles than their predecessors, a new report claims.
They are better educated, more highly skilled and assertive, according to research by Angela Mortimer Plc. This is due to technology, the growth of the service industry and an increased emphasis upon “adding value”, the organisation says.
John Mortimer, CEO and founder of Angela Mortimer Plc, said: “There is no longer a glass ceiling in terms of career development for secretaries. The traditional role has changed beyond recognition.”
He added that secretaries were often well equipped to become senior skilled staff: “Businesses today are crying out for executive staff who can not only organise but problem solve, make key decisions, interface with clients and manage teams.
“They recognise that these staff can improve their productivity, add value and increase their competitive edge,” he said.
