The results of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development's annual survey find that e-learning, although much-publicised, is only being used in less than a third of organisations for staff training and development.
502 organisations were surveyed by the CIPD, which found that IT staff are most likely to be making use of training online, with managers and manual workers least likely to be learning in this way.
Martyn Sloman, the CIPD's adviser on Training and Development said that he still believed e-learning had the power to 'transform organisations' - but that this process was happening much slowly than expected because 'it represents a challenge for many companies as it demands new attitudes and skills. We also still have a great deal to learn about the conditions under which e-learning is likely to be most effective."

Do you think that eLearning will take off when global economies start to improve?
I wonder whether the fact that training tends to get “hit” hard (and often first) when there is a slump might be a huge contributing factor.
Sods law really, isn’t it? Use eLearning to reduce the cost of training, but of course the initial investment is the hit that no-one seems to want to take at the moment.
