Sales Skills Training for FE Lecturers?

Sales for non-sales people !

I have done quite a lot of work in helping “non sales” staff develop their selling skills, (as well as out and out sales staff !!) and found that the approach has to be more “softly softly” !! Quite often the thought of being “sales people” can be very offputting and even scary to those who have no desire to be “sales people”. This tends to be based on their perception of what sales people are and their own personal experience of dealing with sales people !And this was regularly backed up with statements like “I’m not here to sell, I’m here to ……. (whatever their job role was).”

With the teams I worked with, we first of all discussed “What is selling ?” and looked at why it seemed so alien to them, and then helped them to incorporate some sales ideas that they felt comfortable with, so that they could understand how to “promote” their products / services – rather than “sell” them !!!!
