Coaching video clip?

default-16x9

Many of the clips which can be used in the training room tend to focus on directive coaching or training. What we are looking for is an idea for a short clip which demonstrates good coaching practice in terms of interaction between coach and 'coachee' in order to improve on an existing skill (rather than learn a new skill). We have tried to think of the sporting-themed films but so far nothing seems to fit the bill. Any ideas anyone?

  1. Coaching video clips
    Hi Jean,

try the film Hoosiers. It stars Jean Hackman as a basketball team coach and has many good examples throughout of good and bad coaching. It was on TV recently so you may find someone who has a copy that they taped but as for getting a copy to buy, I believe it has been deleted in the UK. Don’t know about the USA though but remember the format differences between PAL (ours) and NTSC (theirs) as you will need the right kit to play it through. I found it on DVD (region 1 format though) at the following website for £19.69 including VAT

Also, if you use a feature film for public viewing (e.g. training purposes), you are supposed to get permission from the film distributor and you may also need a license from the Performing Rights Society and an outfit called the VPL (Video Performance Limited I think).

About 6 years ago, I scripted, filmed and edited a coaching video and I may have a copy lying around somewhere but again, you’d have to check usage with the copyright owners.

I hope this is helpful – let me know (gary.homes@changescape.com tel: 07880790815).

    Regards,

    Gary

  2. The Empire Strikes Back
Try Star Wars – The Empire Strikes back if you want to put a bit of fun into your session. Luke and Yoda, great coaching, loads of meta4’s and fun…
