I'm currently involved in some research around professional development. I would be grateful if people could share any new/exciting evaluation of training techniques with me! What is happening in the real world as opposed to what's written in text books would be useful - thanks.

Evaluation in the ‘Real’ World
Jenny
I don’t know that I’ve ever been able to find the real world … it’s a little nebulous.
What’s happening in industry most often appears to be that very little evaluation is being done. That which is being done, usually only involves completion of a participant questionnaire. Some of our colleagues may wish to comment about that, since it’s only my personal observation.
Of the numbers of different theories about evaluation, many of which I am revisiting as a Master of Educational Technology student, Fitzpatrick’s four-step evaluation model appeals to me because of its pragmatism and suitability for evaluation of industry training.
The four steps involve measuring satisfaction of participants with their learning experience, achievement of learning outcomes, application of learnt topics at work, and cost-effectiveness etc of the training intervention.
I have a short paper about the topic which I wrote for coaches within a financial institution. If you’d like a copy, please email me.
Regards
Robin
