The BBC is launching a major campaign as part of Adult Learners Week (May 1999) to raise public awareness of the Internet. The centrepiece will be a series of 40-second motivational shorts on BBC1 and BBC2, supplemented by additional programming on BBC2 and local radio. The aim of the programming is to encourage people to 'have a go' and particate in a series of taster events which are being arranged around the country.
The BBC has recruited a series of local partner agencies able and willing to provide the WebWise taster sessions using CD-ROM demonstrations, online activities and promotional materials.
A freephone helpline will direct callers to their nearest participating organisation.
