IBM have recently cancelled the release of their ThinkPad 240 laptop that contained the Transmeta low-energy Crusoe microprocessor chip. IBM made very little comment as to the reasons for this, but only stated that this is the only project that was effected and were continuing to look at ways of lowering energy costs.

IBM Microelectronics actually manufacture the Crusoe processors for Transmeta as they have no production facilities of their own. Transmeta rely on IBM for all their assembly, thus do not have direct control over product delivery.

Sony have also produced a laptop using the Crusoe chip, the Vaio C1 PictureBook, however only in the US and both NEC and Hitachi Ltd, have also produced computers powered using the Transmeta chip and again only in Japan, in limited quantities.
