How do you celebrate exam successes ?

default-16x9

I would appreciated finding out how other companies celebrate with their employees when their individuals pass exams / tests / NVQ's etc.

Do you give cash awards, give them an allowance to spend how they please, invite them the site-wide celebrations, gift vouchers etc.

This of course gets complicated when individuals
- are sponsored the whole way through by the company or conversely do all the studying in their own time
- take qualifications that build up ie Certificate followed by Diploma etc
- take courses which rely on continuous assessment
- take job-specific short courses of 1 - 2 duration followed by exams
- take qualifications in their own time and then let the company know afterwards and claim the work helps them in their work

Thank you very much

  1. Don’t be cheesy!
My take on this really depends upon what the company culture is like. Personally speaking I would find a public ‘hooha’ quite embarassing and to be honest a little cheesy or not quite genuine. If you have a company newsletter or monthly e-mail update then maybe place everyone who had completed such courses within it and let people organise there own success (team building in a local public house is usually a good environment to share success, as we know).
Or maybe leave it to the responsibility of the Team leader/line manager to organise as they are closest to the team member(s) and would imagine would have the best insight into what would go down best.

    Just a thought.

  2. celebrate success
Some tips we have picked up from our clients.

    1. Be genuine
    2. Be discrete.
    3. Make sure achievement shows on performance records.
    4. Increase pay!
    5. Notify in newletter speedily after achievement.
    6. If the person can handle public applause-go for it!

I suppose in our efforts to be discrete we have to ensure that we are not missing out to congratulate when someone has done well.
