Senior Management material

Being new to training, I am baffled by the apparent lack of training material designed specifically with Directors and Senior Managers in mind. I am probably looking in the wrong place, but since I can find very little material (well none in truth)it is diffiucult to write new material without something to benchmark against. Does anyone know of a resource that could provide at least a full blown example for comparison purposes? Or have I just given myself a job?

  1. DPL has worked a lot with Directors/senior execs
    Over the past 10 years we have worked extensively with Directors of large & small organisations individually (coaching & mentoring) & in teams (team development programmes) in both the public & private sector.
    We have developed a unique’ish approach to coaching with them & some new models & approaches built around eg Iod Directors competencies , “becoming easier to do business with, boxes & bubbles etc.
    In general they want & need highly personalised input.
    What & who do you represent & want this input for?

    I have to agree with Dave that coaching is one of the best ways forward with executives. Many times they themselves are not sure why they are where they are, and there is fear attached to seeming to not know. Basically, if your training is geared around strategic planning, drivers of the organisation, globalisation, and new stuff such as e-commerce, you should be okay. Anything else probably as to be done more behind closed doors, such as with coaching. Quantum 5 in London (0870-3330032) do wonderful telephone coaching, and you may want to network with them. Lastly, getting and keeping their commitment can be difficult. Always too busy, too much to do, that their own development, however vital, will repeatedly get put on the back burner. Courses also need to be short and sharp. I personally do Values Integration work which I find particularly rewarding – and frustrating! The coaching I do is more personal, and therefore more rewarding with less frustration. And because it is one to one, it is very focused and appropriate.

    I hope this is helpful. There are books out there, such as by Kepner Tregoe, which I know that execs read. (Please see my contribution about KT) Quite a few have also mentioned Charles Handy as a favourite.
