ONdigital lose one in five customers

The multi-channel television owned by Granada Media and Carlton Communications, ONdigital appear to be meeting their target of 1m subscribers by the end of 2000. However, the update on subscriber numbers highlight that nearly one in five customers do not renew their contract at the end of the year.

The rate of 20% of subscribers leaving the service does not appear to concern ONdigital as they state that the amount of people leaving were inevitable following the consequences of an offer last year which was to offer free set-top boxes in return for 12 months subscription agreement.

The company said to be valued at around £1.25bn are said to be extending their range of channels in January 2001 by adding Two Way TV. This offers interactive games such as 'A Question of Sport' and the 'Crystal Maze'

ONdigitals biggest rivals are said to be BSkyB who have 3.8m digital subscribers on cable or satellite television.
