There is a science I would think, to creating creating good instructor-led manuals. I would think proper learning theory would be incorporated and so forth. I would think evaluating these manuals would use the same criteria as would be creating them. I am looking for something which simply states what those are so I do full justice in my evaluation process. Any ideas where I can go and search for this without having to be a member would be most helpful

Resource for evaluating training
One resource I found helpful was Daryl Sink’s course developer… There are many others, as well. In our organization right now, we are placing much emphasis on completion of the experiential learning cycle for our instructor lead training. That is: Learning Objective/Lecturette (if necessary)/Experience/Publish/Process/Generalize/Apply. Keeps us focused on making sure our learning objectives are not only met, but can be applied as well!

Evaluating Training Courseware
I would expect to see most, if not all of, the following in a training package: clear topic that identifies audience; program outline; advice on how the package might be used; modularised content; session plans; participant handouts; exercises; assessment instruments, and marking guides; an evaluation strategy and associated questionnaire(s). Additionally, in my packages I include advice on adult learning theory and how to plan a training session for non-trainers who may be required to deliver content eg, technical supervisors.
An appropriate evaluation would address each of these elements. Unfortunately I don’t have a checklist, but I can provide a copy of a Program Outline model that I use and have found highly accepted by peers.
