I want to offer percussion (specifically samba) workshops to companies / organisations as part of team-building or other training events, or even just for staff fun. I would like to hear from anyone who has had experience of this and who can offer guidance or suggestions.

The beat of change
Hi Cath
I recently incorporated a “hands on” session of african drumming into a series of workshops on Change Leadership – it always worked really well – in terms of learning, learning about learning, and all sorts of symbols and metaphors about change, listening, different rhythms, leadership, teamwork etc. And everybody had lots of fun!
Do give me a ring or e-mail me directly if you want to know more.

The Music Makers
Hello there Cath,
One of the programmes that we have designed for companies, ‘Music Makers’ blends elements of creativity training and team building through the medium of music. We originally designed the programme to use simple percussion instruments, but have found that it works far better with a small group of more complex instruments – guitars, keyboards, etc plus percussion. This necessitates an ‘expert’ trainer joining the workshop facilitator, but our clients seem to love the results.
By the end of the programme they feel not only more creative, but more successful ( the wow I can play a tune on the piano factor ), and we strengthen their team relationships through the interaction of their ‘orchestra’.
If you want any more information about our experiences please give me a call on 07970 922984, or e-mail me at mbc@light-bulb.fsbusiness.co.uk.
I hope this works out for you, I’ve had tremendous fun with it.
Regards

Afro-Caribbean Drumming and Movement
We run a company call ‘The Rhythm Business’ and specialise in using Afro-Caribbean drumming and movement as a team building tool. We use a mixture of drums and percussion instruments as a learning tool. Within a few minutes, individuals are able to start playing together – even the most uncoordinated person!
In our workshops we give groups the opportunity to create music in a ‘drum circle’ which is a process to involve teambuilding.
The learning point is communication, teambuilding, confidence building and to have fun!
As well as ‘off the shelf’ packages we can also tailor our program to fit with your learning event.
