From a DfEE press release:-
Employment is at its highest level ever and unemployment is down significantly, today’s labour market statistics reveal.
The figures show that:
* employment has risen to 27.4 million, the highest level ever:
* employment has risen by 43,000 over the last quarter, and by 347,000 on last year;
* unemployment on the ILO measure has gone down by 62,000 over the last quarter. The rate of ILO unemployment also went down from 6.2% to 6.0%, the lowest recorded rate since the ILO definition was introduced in Spring 1984;
* unemployment on the claimant count measure has gone down by 32,900 on last month, and by 96,900 on last year. It now stands at its lowest level since May 1980.
