I know a highly successful Head of Maths in a senior school who has been teaching for 20 years, getting serious results, takes a huge pride in the development of her students, and is sick of being patronised by the government. She needs to get out and start earning proper money, but is worried that at her age there will be limited opportunities. Realistically, what are the options? She would be ideally suited to graduate development, having a strong corporate background (before she had children she was a stockbroker, and very good at that too)and good pastoral skills.
Can anyone offer advice?

Go for it!
I was in training then teaching and now training again. I would say her best niche would be to sell herself on her knowledge of GNVQ/NVQ – this is where I have found the biggest overlap is, and where the biggest gap is, in the commercial environment. She could set herself up as a consultant on that basis only, and do very well. She could contact the DTI and DFEE about project work in this area of expertise, or just sell herself well – she shouldn’t have any problems. – that’s my opinion for what it is worth!
