‘Brookside’ soap opera to link to literacy campaign

A tie up between the Channel 4 soap ‘Brookside’ and adult literacy campaigns is to be launched on 19 February when the story line will include characters with a reading difficulty. In a tie up with Learning Direct, viewers will be able to call a helpline, receive a ‘Brookie-basics’ pack and register for help at any of 800 participating literacy centres. The initiative is targetted at people with low basic skills aged 16 and over.
