A training scheme set up by Airbus UK, which saw over 500 staff enrol on online courses in its first year, is looking to boost numbers among the 5,800-strong workforce on Learning at Work Day.
The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) at Airbus UK in Filton – run by leading not-for-profit training provider Brunel Training Group – is throwing its doors open to all staff to mark the day.
Centre manager Amanda Archer said: “One year after opening, the LRC is proving more popular than ever.
"Of the approximately 5,000 staff on site, 560 have enrolled on learndirect courses and 200 have completed their training.
"Our open day today will hopefully increase enrolment figures further still."
Co-ordinated by the Campaign for Learning and supported by learndirect as part of Adult Learners’ Week, the aim of Learning at Work Day is to encourage employees to break from routine and learn new work and life skills.
Pete Brewer, Chief Executive of Brunel Training Group said: “Learning does not start when we go to school and it should not end when we leave.
He added: “Learning at Work can also address the requirements of UK business and industry.
"Through work-based training employees can undertake their everyday work and contribute to business, but also obtain valuable qualifications and transferable skills.
"NVQs in areas such as manufacturing, engineering, business administration and social care are a great example of this.”
