May 26 is Learning at Work Day, a date when up and down the country organisations show their commitment to staff development and give their workforce the opportunity to break from routine and learn something new.

This year's line up of events taking place in companies around the country include:

* Orange Business Services: a whole day of job swaps throughout the department to help deliver an even better customer service.

* North Bristol NHS Trust: activities on a theme of relaxation and mediation explored through a writing competition, a skills for life quiz, relaxation techniques, Indian Head Massage and a knitting session to make woolly hats for premature babies.

* Virgin Mobile Customer Centre: learning tasters include, basic sign language; Action for Blind People experience, to demonstrate the world of the blind and partially sighted; martial arts demonstrations; self-defence demonstrations; physics with everyday household items; first aid basics; foreign language master classes in Spanish and Italian; food nutrition talks and body fat index testing.

* Accenture Aberdeen: focus on language and communication with small bitesize sessions including basic sign language, Latin, German & Spanish. Other sessions will explore the more serious issues of "what is intelligence", "what is lifelong learning" and "how do people learn".

* Diageo: 500 employees will have the opportunity to take part in a 30 minute workshop on a number of activities. The management team have given everyone an extra 15 minutes on their break to attend a session, which must be matched with 15 minutes of their own time. In addition to this Fife College, Talk2 ( a Diageo financial and personal advice line), Millennium Gym and stands by other organisations such as Learn Direct, will be on site on the day.
