learnDirect - the government sponsored online learning service managed by UfI (formerly the University for Industry) is today being officially launched nationwide. At the present time, learnDirect has just over 400 courses available online although with many more approved providers, this number is expected to increase quickly.

UfI that 700 centres are now available around the country and that more than 35,000 people have tried the service.

learnDirect is aimed primarily at smaller businesses who may not have a large training and development budget for their staff but a number of large organisations including the army and BT have joined the scheme at a corporate level.

Individual Learning Accounts will also be integrated into the learnDirect programmes.
