HRD2002HRD 2002, CIPD Annual Learning, Training and Development Conference and Exhibition

In the run up to this year's HRD exhibition and conference, TrainingZONE has been talking to speakers, exhibitors and organisers about what will be on show and how it reflects on training today. We identified some growth areas and talked to practitioners in those areas, and from their answers we have produced a couple of features, on
Drama-based training and on Cultural awareness training

As the event's organisers have pointed out to us, the content mix and pitch of HRD 2002 closely reflects the state of the profession, where responsibilities for learning, training and development are split between training and development specialists (50% of market), personnel and training managers (30%), and hands on trainers (20%). Over 300 providers will be exhibiting, and 7,000 visitors are expected.

The seminars are streamed by delivery style into four groups:
- Masterclasses: expert views from the leading authorities in the field
- Training Essentials: guidance on how to approach training issues
- Case Studies: practical insights into how others deal with learning initiatives
- Evaluation Workshops: how to determine the real cost of training

Speakers inclde Dr Susan Greenfield, Dr Meredith Belbin, Professor Adrian Furnham and Dr Stephen Covey.

The prominence of Evaluation Workshops at HRD 2002 reflects a growing area of interest: the process of identifying and demonstrating the return on any training investment will be a priority (something we have recognised on TrainingZONE too!).

Due to the abundance of recent legislation, legal issues are now higher on the profession's agenda. On this note, the Training within the Law seminar is a new initiative.

Throughout the conference, all the 'big names' are related to the professional field, rather than sports personalities (used in previous years very successfully). And this is proving a good move with eight of the top ten selling seminars being masterclasses.

The exhibition will feature over 300 suppliers.
