We are the process of reviewing our training strategy for the future and of course E-learning will be playing a large part in how we deliver training.
Traditionally we have delivered our training via formal courses to a varied population within our business. Our focus now needs to be around looking at the future capabilities our organisation will need in the fast pace of change and be able to deliver just in time learner driven training.
We will be introducing an intranet which should be rolled out to most of the organisation by the Autumn but we want to get cracking on some kind of pilot in the mean time for delivery in September.
The areas I hope you can help with are as follows:
Intranet/ internet learning and successful implementation
As this is a new area to us we would like to learn from others. Do you know of any companies that have successfully planned and implemented this type of project (from a leading edge perspective) that we can perhaps talk to discuss areas such as process, possible issues and implications, application and engaging individuals etc?
Materials/ sources of learning
We have also previewed some materials but our overall view is that they are perhaps too generic and did not excite us to "want to learn". Can anyone recommend providers that can produce exciting bespoke and generic training that our employees will be unable to resist and be really engaged in (a tall order perhaps?). Speed to market would also be an important issue.
This area could also include libraries etc.
Varied capabilities in a diverse workforce
Something else that we need to consider is that the skill levels in terms of using PC's and access to PC's of our work force is very different.
Our office based workers and our sales force have their own
dedicated stations whereas some of our blue collar supply
operations will not. We also have a view that the level of
competence and "want to learn " is lower within the latter area as well.
Do you have any best practice in terms of identifying needs and up-skilling these people, particularly in terms of using the intranet, in a relatively short space of time?
Hopefully this note is not too woolly but as you can appreciate we are at rather a "foggy" stage at the moment and any input will be greatly appreciated.
