The Americans obviously know something we don't, because they're hosting an online chat with 'wise and witty sage' Socrates today - never mind the fact he's been dead for 2,500 years!
Apparently he's already appeared in an online chat this year, so it's nice to see he's so up-to-date with the latest communication methods of this century!
The topic of conversation today will be 'how to become a better lifelong learner'. Socrates has kindly offered six suggestions to be going on with, some of which, it has to be said, are written in an American style!:
- Ask questions, and make them open-ended to encourage people to reveal what they know
- Know Thyself - get in touch with your 'essential convictions'
- Experience Eureka - break through rigid thinking and use new ways of thinking instead
- Think for yourself - don't necessarily rely on received wisdom
- Learn together - all of us are smarter than any one of us!
- Create your life - be proactive in order for new growth to occur
You can log on and speak to the great man himself (allegedly) between 8 and 9pm tonight by going to About Education's chat room.
(STOP PRESS: latest news is that Socrates has been unmasked to reveal an American trainer and consultant called Ronald Gross. And we thought it was for real.............!)
