Editor's Note
=============
As last week's Training Solutions Show demonstrated, the world of
desktop computers and the Internet are revolutionising the way in
which training professionals conduct their work. From electronic
projectors to online learning, from searchable directories to self-
assessment materials, it's all going online and is increasingly
available "just-in-time" through your desktop PC.

With an explosion of offerings and companies, many struggling for
funding or audience share, there will need to be considerable
consolidation in the sector, with reputable brands and strong-
functioning products winning out in the longer-term.

These are issues which TrainingZONE and its parent company Sift have
been working with over several years. On Tuesday, this effort pays
off. Sift have won awards in the past, but TrainingZONE is now one
of just two finalists in the coveted Yell Awards, recognising
outstanding Internet developments. Contending for the 'Best UK
Business-to-Business' category, the TrainingZONE site has already
beater BT and the Henley Centre amongst others. The winner goes
through to the Best UK Website Award. This national recognition
reinforces the fact that TrainingZONE is the premier online business
resource for training professionals.

Merry-go-rounds, muppets and men in orange suits!
-------------------------------------------------
Just some of the weird and wonderful gimmicks to draw your attention
at this year's Training Solutions and the IT Training Show at the NEC
this week. The lively show, which took place from 4-6 July, had no
shortage of noisy and visually distracting competition for its
visitors attention!

A detailed round-up of news from the exhibition will appear on the
site at the beginning of next week and in next week's LearningWire.
Thanks to all those who came up and said hello, and to those who are
reading their very first LearningWire as a result!

Is there any point in building teams?
-------------------------------------
On the back of the recent poor team performances from England's
football and cricket teams, Simon Caulkin, writing in the Guardian
last week says that the importance of teamwork often prevents
rational discussion about it.

Update from Ufi
---------------
As the date for Ufi's formal launch in England, Wales and Northern
Ireland draws ever nearer, the agency has published a series of
regular updates. You can download the latest one with items on post-
16 learning consultation, Ufi products and current developments from
http://www.ufiltd.co.uk

Our view: We watch the developments at Ufi with interest; we support
the creation of a network of local learning centres if these are
genuinely accessible. However, we remain concerned as to the message
which Ufi/LearnDirect is putting out: just who does it see as its
prime audience - individual learners or employers?

TD2000 awards - winners announced
---------------------------------
The winners of the TD 2000 awards were announced on Tuesday evening

and to 'increase awareness of running training like a business'.
Three finalists were picked from a shortlist of twelve - find out

The Tenders area of TrainingZONE is one of the most visited parts of
