Continuous Professional Development for Norfolks’ Voluntary Local voluntary and community groups and Further Education providers have joined forces to address the issues around Lifelong Learning and the training needs of the ‘not for profit’ sector in Norfolk.
The voluntary sector led Reference Group is developing a pioneering project which will enable ‘not for profit’ organisations to define their own training and development needs and, for the first time, develop a strategy for meeting them.
The goal is to develop a sector-specific modular programme of accredited training, for paid staff and volunteers, spanning induction right through to post-graduate level. In national terms, the move is timely. Only recently, Minister for Lifelong Learning, Malcolm Wicks, announced, ‘The voluntary bodies that survive will be those which are concerned about standards and quality and therefore the training needs of their workforce.’
The Norfolk project is being developed in response to local need but is already being hailed nationally as a model example of partnership working in this vital area of development for voluntary and community organisations.
