"Tackling poverty and social exclusion is one of the greatest challenges we face today. It is central to the pledge of national renewal on which this Government was elected. It is the key to realising our vision of a fairer, more inclusive society.

This site sets out what we are seeking to achieve. It explains our vision and how our policies are beginning to make it a reality. This is not just about Government policies. It is about building on what works, rather than reinventing the wheel. It is also about people, families and communities who are actively engaged in the process of renewal. The process is owned by them as much as by Government. Together we are beginning to make a difference.
There is still much to be done. We must build on progress to-date, enhancing and strengthening policies as we go. This is vital if we are to bring about sustainable improvements, if we are to make a reality of the vision we have for our country and the people and communities in it."
