Web-based MSc in Lifelong Learning

default-16x9

A web-based course offering Certificate, Diploma and Master's Degree awards in Lifelong Learning is now entering its third year of successful operation.

The programme is operated jointly by staff from Stirling University and Glasgow Caledonian University. At the present time, many of the participants on the course are drawn from the FE sector, but the material is of equal value to those in wider education and training roles.

The programme has two intake dates each year, but after an initial face-to-face meeting where students are made familiar with the technology aspects, the rest of the programme is conducted at the student's own pace using a combination of computer-mediated conferencing, web-based material and email support. A recent development is to explore placing digitized reference text on the website for direct access by the student.

The programme follows a modular format enabling students to focus on the main subjects of interest to them. It's possible to complete modules to be awarded the Certificate, Diploma or full Master's programme. A flexible system is offered whereby prior learning (either experiential or certificated) can be accredited, subject to submission of appropriate evidence.

Some sixty students are currently involved in the programme which costs around £400 per module, or £4,000 for the full Master's degree.

Further information about the programme is available on their website or contact Roy Canning (email: roy.canning@stir.ac.uk) or phone 01786 467606.
