CIPD learning, training and development adviser Martin Sloman's
article Helping People Learn has divided opinion in the
TrainingZONE community. While Ian Cunningham thought Martin's
viewpoint was "spot on" others expressed concern about his
assertion that "the systematic training model has achieved a
disproportionate importance". Perhaps the findings of this CIPD
report are most worrying for people like Mark Cowan, who is just
entering the profession and wonders why none of this thinking
was covered on his post-graduate diploma in HRM. Read all the
