As part of Adult Learning Week, awarding body and assessment specialist, Education Development International(EDI) has compiled a list of the most unusual vocational qualifications obtained by adult learners.

Topping the list is the level 4 NVQ in Archaeological Practice, followed by a Level 2 Certificate in Control of Infection and Contamination for social care staff.

Other unusual qualifications include Defensive Driving (Level 2 Certificate), Level 2 VRQ Visitor Attraction Operations for those in the leisure and tourism industry, Certificate in Classical Musical Instrument Technology and Level 2 VRQ in Healthier Foods and Special Diets.

Gareth Phillips, Strategic Director at EDI, said: "Adult learning isn’t just about improving basic skills to help people get jobs, it’s also about helping people reach their full potential once they are in a job – whether that job be in a theme park or in an office.

"It’s about celebrating success and achievement and ensuring people feel valued and skilled in what they do – whatever that may be. Working life doesn’t have to be a daily grind – it can also be exciting and fulfilling!”
