Remember "Sunscreen", that piece of prose giving advice, that circulated the student e-mail inboxes and was posted to many a web site? Well I could have done with some advice this week.
It's been one of those weeks when things don't go to plan. You know what I mean
- the PC has a hard drive failure - and you've not backed up properly,
- the dog becomes ill - everywhere,
- the teenage daughter becomes hormonal - and takes it out on the best china!
Need I elaborate?
Well, I'm grateful to Mr D. otherwise known as Dennis DeSimone whose newsletters giving HR and training advice are thought provoking - and good copy. Dennis's latest mailing is a list of those execuses for not getting the work done. Here it is:
- - That's the way we've always done it.
- - I didn't know you were in a hurry for it.
- - That's not my department.
- - No one told me to go ahead.
- - I'm waiting for an O.K.
- - How did I know this was different?
- - That's _____'s job, not mine.
- - Wait till the boss comes back and ask him/her.
- - I forgot.
- - I didn't think it was very important.
- - I'm so busy I just can't get around to it.
- - I thought I told you.
- - I wasn't hired to do that.
Most of Dennis's newsletters have a more serious tone
