Scotland's Enterprise Minister Henry McLeish has announced a £60 million initiative to create the first science and technology centre. The CityScience development should secure around 3,000 jobs in an integrated office, housing and leisure development on derelict ground in Glasgow.
The aims are to attract organisationsf from around the world who specialise in software development, e-commerce, advanced engineering and life sciences to the city. This should also lead to high-quality housing developments and major investments in leisure facilities around Glasgow to attract more people to come to Glasgow to live and work.
The project will be developed on derelict land in the Merchant City area of Glasgow and should create 550,000 square feet of office space as well as housing, shopping and leisure attractions to allow people to live and work within the science quarter.
This initiative is intending to start the first phase of the project which will be a software centre by this time next year with new office space and a street over the next five years. The land is currently owned by Scottish Enterprise.
