Training and HR professionals may be feeling the heat of increased working hours, according to our latest poll.
Early results had suggested that HRD-ers are a pretty balanced lot, with a majority expecting to spend the same amount of time at work during the next year. This still holds true for 30 percent of those who responded, but one in five expect the pressure to increase. In fact, it may well be that some have already had enough - 35 percent are going to be looking for a new job with better pay in the coming year. Just under 15 percent are tending towards the workshy, aiming to 'tune in and drop out', if not completely then partially.
The full results are as follows:
- Spend more time at work - 21%
- Spend roughly the same time at work - 29%
- Spend less time at work - 6%
- Look for a new job with better pay - 35%
- Downshift to a new job to work less - 8%
We were keen to find out whether other professionals felt the same, so the poll also ran across our sister communities AccountingWeb and LawZone. The results show that Accountants see themselves as the most hard-pressed - 37 percent think the time they spend at work will increase in the next year. 32 percent of Lawyers think the same, so maybe the life of a Training and HR professional isn't so bad.
On the other hand, maybe the working life (and pay!) of a Training and HR professional is worse and they're more proactive about doing something about it. Only a quarter of Accountants thought they'd 'up sticks' in the next year, and just over a quarter of Lawyers felt the same, but then again, maybe they're earning too much money already!
Something is definitely keeping our professionals at work, though - overall less than 8 percent had plans to 'downshift' in the next year.
