Developments at Sift
====================
During the past couple of weeks, Sift have transferred all our main sites to Netcom's web servers in Bracknell. This should result in very faster access and download times and the servers are closer to the central Internet backbone in the UK. Unfortunately, the move has led to some technical difficulties which means there have been occasional breaks in service. With the introduction of some software upgrades, these should be sorted. We apologise for any delays you may have experienced.

Last weekend, Sift also moved to smart new office accommodation. The new address and phone number are given at the end. If you're really keen, you can even look at a picture of the offices at

Management Development
======================

Management Charter Initiative
----------------------------
METO is the new National Training Organisation for Management and Enterprise launched in July 1998. It is an alliance between the Management Charter Initiative (MCI) and the Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative. METO aims to develop Britain's competitiveness by leading the agenda for management and enterprise. MCI have relaunched their catalogue containing various guides to management development, the MCI management standards, and various business development products. There is an on-line version at the rather unwieldy http://management-charter-initiative.org.uk A series of workshops on the Management Charter Initiative are also scheduled for this autumn in Leeds and London. Details from MCI Freepost, WC 5434, Russell Square House, London WC1B 5BR

New publications from Peter Honey
---------------------------------
Peter Honey Publications have announced a series of new practical publications scheduled to appear this autumn. Amongst the ones to catch my eye were 'The Learning Company Toolkit' being written by Mike Pedler, John Burgoyne and Tom Boydell, and 'The Competencies Toolkit' being written by Graham Robinson and Paul Whiteley. Current Peter Honey publications can be browsed at http://www.peterhoney.co.uk

Toolkit for Managers
--------------------
Also in the pipeline to appear early in the new year is a new 'Toolkit for Managers' being written by Penny Sharland and Tim Pickles to be published jointly by Pavilion Publishing and Gower. This will complement the existing highly successful series of 'Toolkit for Trainers' and 'Toolkit for Managing Change'. The new toolkit will provide more than 60 practical models and tools to help managers integrate many of the more innovative and radical ideas about organisational and management development into their practice. The Department of Trade and Industry has issued a Press Release warning that the millennium bug is still a very real danger especially to small business. In order to publicise the problem and to address some of the issues, Action 2000's chairman, Don Cruickshank, will be hosting a live internet chat on the Enterprise Zone website. SMEs are being urged to take part in this and to post their questions and voice their concerns on the site either before the live session or between 10.00 and 11.00 am on Tuesday 15 September when Don Cruickshank will be online to answer them.
