In a Guardian report today, we learn that Britain's top bosses have awarded themselves big pay rises.
Pay consultants, Inbucon, surveying for the Guardian found that Britain's bosses had received an average pay rise of 16.5%, about four times the average pay rise for the UK.
The survey reports that 110 managers broke the £1 million income level, but that only one of them was a woman. Three of the 110 mangers received in excess of £1 million on basic pay alone, whilst the remainder used payments from share options and incentive payments.
The 16.5% year-on-year rise in directors' pay is based on their total base salaries during the last financial year and takes no account of gains made on options or other performance-related pay deals. While directors' enjoyed large rises, the average wage in the country rose, according to government figures, by 4.1%.
