TrainingZone Live 2011 brought together a range of leading learning and development thinkers and practitioners. We managed to catch up with a few of them to hear more of what they talked about.

  • Start with the business rather than end with it - start with level 4 of the Kirkpatrick Business Partnership Model
  • Find the advocates for training
  • Start of return on expectations is agreeing what success looks like for the training intervention
  • Need for a new mindset for training professionals
  • Identify success and build bridge from learning to behaviour.

Key points from interview:

  • The session looked at the presuures on the training department and what we can do about these with a focus on skills
  • Key pressures: money, time, managers wanting skills training but not giving employees enough time for it
  • What are classrooms good for including emulation - watching others and emulating them
  • Key for L&D professionals is to provide different delivery mechanisms for providing content
  • Future focus for L&D teams will be on these four areas: capability building, performance support, individual learning support and organisational skills support.
