CIPD Annual Conference and Exhibition paves the way for next generation talent strategies

talent

At its Annual Conference and Exhibition in Manchester, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has published the first in a series of six exclusive thought pieces on talent management.

Written in collaboration with a range of experts and thought leaders in the field, the series is designed to start a debate about future talent strategies and identify some of the macro and micro challenges that are likely to determine our approaches. It will challenge talent management specialists to practise what they preach by future proofing their own strategies in the same way they help the businesses in which they work to build sustainable futures.

The thought pieces will be published over a period of six weeks starting today and can be viewed at www.cipd.co.uk/talentforward, where visitors are encouraged to join in the debate. The topics covered will be:
·         Part one: Tackling the New Global Talent Realities (in collaboration with Geoff Tranfield, Group Director of HR Petrofac Limited, and Kwan Chee Wei, Executive Director, Human Capital Leadership Institute)
Join the debate: Do you have a clear understanding of the shifts in the global marketplace and how these will affect your supply of talented people?
·         Part two: Talent and Changing Values (in collaboration with Dr Georg Vielmetter, Regional Director Europe, Hay Group, Leadership & Talent)
Join the debate: How are you responding to increasing demands for meaning, corporate responsibility, self-expression and fulfillment?
·         Part three: Talent Clusters (in collaboration with Bill Parsons, VP HRM, ARM Holdings)
Join the debate: Have you considered talent clusters beyond the traditional boundaries of your organisation?
·         Part four: Developing Talent Measurement Insight (in collaboration with John Boudreau PhD, Center for Effective Organizations at the University of Southern California)
Join the debate: How can you generate business savvy and real insight from your talent data?
·         Part five: Talent Partnerships Throughout and Beyond the Organisation (in collaboration with Peter Cappelli, Professor of Management, Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania)
Join the debate: Do you have a strong talent alumni and external talent networks and are you actively keeping talent warm for the future?
·         Part six: Talent Sustainability Coming out of Recession (in collaboration with Graeme Martin, University of Glasgow Business School)
Join the debate: Can you challenge inappropriate or high-risk behaviour, even when it comes from your most financially valuable talent?
Claire McCartney, Resourcing and Talent Planning Adviser at CIPD, comments: “Talent management has been the buzz word in HR for several years. Not a day goes by without a new talent publication, article or tool, but much of the rhetoric often seems out of touch with the changing current and future requirements of our organisations and wider society. The way we develop our unique talent strategies should be linked to specific business challenges but there are a range of broader developments that should be prompting us all to pause, re-think and re-shape our approaches to talent. We, along with leaders in the talent field, explore these developments in our timely Talent Forward thought pieces. Ultimately, building a sustainable next generation workforce will require HR teams to build much greater contextual, organisation and business savvies.”
