LPI Announces the Top 50 UK Training Providers

default-16x9

The Learning and Performance Institute has published details of the Training Top 50, ranking the biggest training providers in the UK

The Training Top 50 gathers the revenues of companies with training businesses and charts the fiscal success of these organisations for the last financial year. The list is compiled by the Learning and Performance Institute. The Institute has been charting the success of sector specific training organisations for over a decade.
This year’s Training Top 50 sees Babcock International top the list with reported revenues of £195m. Babcock provides vocational training to predominately military and public sector workers and manages the training of over 22,000 users nationwide. Babcock’s position in this year’s Training Top 50 reaffirms its place as the largest private sector provider of vocational training in the UK.
Looking beyond Babcock International this year’s Top 50 features a number of familiar names including Ufi, Kaplan, BPP, QA and A4e who all make it into the Top 10. Pearson in Practice also makes it into the Top 10 following its acquisition of Melorio for £99.3m in May 2010.
QA, Commercial Director, Bill Walker said: “To be recognised amongst the Top 10 Training Providers in the UK is a great achievement.  Our success is only possible because our customers recognise the value that training brings their organisation and the expertise that QA has in delivering highly effective training.
“In the last year we have grown across all areas of training from IT certification to project management, management and leadership and more.”
This year’s second highest ranked organisation is A4e (Action for Employment). A4e has offices across the globe and is a prime contractor for the Work programme in the UK. A4e Group CEO Andrew Dutton, said: “A4e is delighted to have been named amongst the Top 5 Training Providers in the UK. A4e’s success is built on our mission of Improving People’s Lives. We believe in helping individuals, their families and communities to reach their potential and thrive and our skills training services are just one way we deliver that mission.”
At the other end of the list both Reed Learning and US owned Peopleserve narrowly make it into the Top 50. Both organisations prop up the list with revenues of £11m.
The Training Top 50 is compiled by The Learning and Performance Institute in association with market intelligence and strategic consultancy specialists, Pardo Fox. Commenting on the journey to get to the final Top 50, Pardo Fox Managing Director, David Pardo said:We don't believe this type of research has been done before, and the results are fascinating. The Top 50 companies generate combined revenues of £2.1bn, so it's clear that the Learning sector is a significant market in its own right, as well as a key enabler for the rest of the economy.
“Three segments stand out prominently: employment training, which accounts for about 37% of that £2.1bn; training for professional skills such as law and accountancy (19%); and military, naval and aviation training (13%).
“We're aware that because there is no centralised registration system or database of training providers, it may be that others may be eligible for inclusion and we would welcome any comments and suggestions. Please send your feedback to Top50@pardofox.com.
