Can anyone recommend a tool for conducting a range of key task analyses?

default-16x9

I have recently started a role that involves me managing a two year project to overhaul the training for around 400 staff in a manufacturing organisation.

My first task has been to identify the variety of roles on site and now, I'm looking to do a key task analysis for each role to identify the necessary skills required. Other than a spreadsheet and a clip-board, does anyone have any remommendations for resources or tips on how to do this more effectively?

It's a huge undertaking and I need to get buy-in from the managers and supervisors who will need to do a lot of the leg work, so I need to make it as easy for them to do as possible.

Thanks in advance.

  1. job descriptions?
Hello Jane, stating the blindingly obvious.

Aren’t the key tasks of the job in the jd’s & person specs?

Have you got these? Are they accurate? Presumably not from what you say?

  2. Job Specs
Yes we do have the job specs but there is some concern that these are out of date and do not refelct the jobs in their entirity. Part of what I’m doing is to not only develop a skills matrix, bit to refresh the job specs.

    Thanks

  3. Task analysis
I have used something in the past which was quite effective. it looked at what was done , how long each task took to learn and time spent on doing it.
Although it’s purpose was structures, the tool may be useful. I think a guy called Michael Cross consulted with us but if you can’t track him down let me know and I will have a search in my old files,
    Best wishes,
    Will
