Evaluation of training

default-16x9

Hi Guys,
Has anyone got any recommendations of evaluation of training courses to attend.
We currently only use "Happy sheets" to get feedback on the training and one of my projects for this year is to have the training evaluated properly and be able to measure the impact of training on the business.

I am a CIPD member and wonder whether their course would be best but I am not sure looking at all the courses availabl which is best.

Any courses that could show how evaluation could be done online and perhaps using ROI would be great.

For information I work in the pensions administration sector designing and delivering courses on the theory of pensions, systems used and processing of work.

Thanks

  1. Maybe you don’t need a course as such…
    Hi Helen

You may not need a course as such, at least, not yet…

I’d be happy to send you several documents (based in part on a presentation I gave to the ASTD in Orlando in 2005) that *could* give you all you need – I know Gary Platt has something similar too…

Also, Brinkerhoff’s book “the success case method” is a great resource too.

Drop me a line at martin [at] p-nrg.com

  2. Will a book do instead of a course?
What is your definition of “evaluating the training properly?”

You may find that a book such as the CIPD classic on evaluation by Bee and Bee (Learning Evaluation) provides more than enough suggestions on ways to evaluate training that go beyond the traditional happy sheet.

The CIPD has some useful information and links to relevant books on the following page:

    http://www.cipd.co.uk/subjects/lrnanddev/evaluation

You may also find that by having specific evaluation forms at the end of each training event that include reference to your specific learning objectives, that you gain much better information to help you evaluate what you do.

A very useful evaluation when teaching information and skills is to test individual’s performance or knowledge before and after the course and then compare the results.

Whilst not answering your question on courses, I hope this has given you some ideas.
