default-16x9

What are the best paper based training off-the-shelves training packages that are already there? and why?
(and not training on coaching via workshops, unfortunately),

Best,

  1. Coaching
    Hi Sylvie,

I have used the GROW model for years now and it is still one of the best models for development coaching. There are many books and resources about GROW available.

I have found that some of the requests for coaching actually turn out to be needs for how to instruct.

This tends to have been from managers who have tried to coach people in their teams who do not have the basic and necessary skills and so a pure coaching approach has lead to confusion and de-motivation.

    Cheers.

  2. sorry in advance
    Dear Sylvie
    1. I’m sorry but I’m not actually answering the question you asked.
    2. You MAY have a reason for asking this question that negates my comments, but I’m assuming (perhaps wrongly) that you are hoping (perhaps under duress) to achieve some level of coaching competence amongst people, solely through study of paper based material.
    3. Expecting an improvement in coaching ability, or a commitment to coaching, without some element of practice and experience is rather like expecting a non musician to learn to play a guitar by study of a “how to” book but with no access to an instrument.
    4. Whilst delegates may achieve some knowledge of the subject (and here Nick’s recommendation is excellent)they will not develop much beyond the theory….unleashing them as coaches with no more than the book learning could well create more harm.
    5. Coaching (notwithstanding the dabate about coach as developer v coach as advisor) is often contra-intuitive to experienced managers; to change intuitive behaviours normally requires practice in a safe environment; hence a workshop or similar opportunity to go beyond the theory.
    6. I will now get off my soapbox!
I doubt that, but hope that, this helps

  3. Try ‘Coaching and Mentoring for Success”
Coaching and mentoring guru Ann Holloway has produced a brilliant audio package on coaching and mentoring. “Coaching and Mentoring for Success” consists of two audio CDS, a 75 page booklet and a suite of online resources. It has been endorsed by the OCR and has received many favourable reviews from users. Check it out for yourself at http://www.amethyst-learning.co.uk/. It’s not very expensive and is available in hard copy or electronic formats.
    Hope this helps
