Is there any nationally available basic computer training?

default-16x9

Is there any provider that can provide computer training for absolute beginners? Preferably not online to start with - ideally there would be at least some initial face-to-face training although a CD-ROM might be an alternative.

The provision needs to cover England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

LearnDirect offers some choices, but these don't seem to be available everywhere, even in England.

Other options include local colleges and adult education providers, but perhaps there's someone else?

  1. Try the Institute of IT Training

You might try the Institute of IT Training. Visit http://www.iitt.org.uk/ and click the link “Find an Accredited Training Provider”.

As your need is quite large, you might like to see the UK’s top 50 IT training companies at IT Skills Research site (http://www.itskillsresearch.co.uk/public/top50-08.shtml). Most of the companies on the list should be able to talk sensibly about arranging such training

    Best of luck.

  2. IT
I know you don’t really want online training, but I can thoroughly recommend http://www.alison.com. Free to register, and learners work through a number of Free courses at a pace to suit them. I’ve been using it for my ECDL and am highly impressed

  3. Basic Computer Courses
We have used the trade union education section from our local college for a very basic course. They provided on site training for free if your staff are members of a trade union. A 10 week course covers word, excel, powerpoint and access. Each session lasts for about 2 hours.

  4. Thanks
Thanks for these suggestions – all three are ideas we hadn’t come across elsewhere.
