In house coaching

Hi,
I have been asked to look at setting up a coaching scheme. Is there anywhere I can source a guide of how to do this??

    1. Sorry, I don’t think there is such a guide, but there are some important questions to consider as foundations for setting up such a scheme.

    a) Who has asked, how do they define “coaching” and what do they see as the justification?
    b) Who will be the coaches?
    c) What motivation is there for the coach?
    d) How appropriate is your organisational culture to nurturing a coaching approach?
    e) Will you actually recognise coaching as a management skill and a KPI?
    f) Who coaches the coaches?
    g) How will you measure the effectiveness and ongoing “cost”?
    h) How will you help your people (the coachees) accept coaching?
    j) What records will you propose to keep relating to coaching activity?
    k) Can you afford (not) to train your coaches?
    m) What other support is there for situations when the coach realises that issues are beyond their ability/authority (EAP/disciplinary processes)
    n) What models will you recommend?

I know that these are questions not answers but, heck, that is one definition of coaching!

I hope this helps…if you want to discuss it any more feel free to call

  2. in house coaching
    Hi,
A few years ago I lead the implementation of an in-house cosaching scheme.
I was in the same position as you but decided to base it on “The Performance Coach” by Tony Dixon & Hazel Valentine published by Gower.
It is fairly comprehensive workshop approach complete with all supporting materials and costs around £150.It is intended to be a 2 1/2 day workshop with the potential to have the qualification accredited.
We did not use in this way but repackaged it into a one day workshop, incorporating a number of additional ideas and customising it to the culture of our organiastion.
The final product was developed as a result of a pilot event covering the HR grou and other key influencers – this was a key step
    hope this helps
