Hi,
I am fairly sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find it using the search.
I am thinking about the possibility of going from a permanent role to contract and need some advice on the mechanics of it (i.e. do I need my own company, can I work as a sole trader etc).
If any one can point me towards a resource that will help with my research or is willing to let me pick their brain a little, that would be an enormous help.

A lot to think about, Rus’s material is a help – also gave a look at http://www.trainerbase.co.uk – there are some useful guides in the downloads section for individuals ‘going it alone’
Things to think about:
marketing – where are you going to get your work from – most freelance trainers only last 12 months
day rate – needs to provide you with cashflow through the tough times (and yes they do happen!)

contracting specifically

if you are specifically looking at contracting rather than freelance – then you will need to be a ltd company – most agencies will not touch a sole trader (tax reasons)
Talk to a couple of accountants, get their take on what you can and cannot do – they each have their own angle (look at TZ sister site accountingweb).
