I've just set up a business to make training videos. What's the best way to approach potential clients and get business in? While I have a wealth of experience in all aspects of TV production I'm not so experienced in marketing my skills. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Kind regards,

Buzz marketing
For a few ideas, you could try the book “Buzz Marketing,” not sure of the author but I’m sure it will be up on Amazon.
That was quick!
Just had a good look on Amazon as suggested…. they’re really raving about the book… Any ideas to kick start word of mouth amongst training companies though?
Try Business Link
Hi Joel
You could contact your local Business Link (Business Gateway in Scotland). They have lots of help and advice for people starting up in business, including marketing.
Good luck!

Just read your comment on ‘Kick-starting Joel.
Why don’t produce some freebies to give to companies – make them short and a snapshot of the full length versions so they can’t be used for training purposes, but will give an idea of the content of the ones you want to sell.
Good Luck
Thx for the help but…
Thanks for the help, but what I really need to know is how best to approach training companies with a view to them using me to make their training films. As it stands I’m learning a lot about USPs in theory, but how best to apply this to HR managers? Potentially I can record, edit and produce anything… I have almost zero overheads, so I should be able to undercut the competition…
Training Videos
Hi Joel
Further to my comments on HRZONE:
I am not sure the average training manager WANTS a video – HOWEVER it may be the right vehicle to solve a problem they have.
You need to spend some time getting in fromt of key people (harder than it sounds) and listen to their needs – then propose a production based solution.
Have you thought about putting together a ‘customer survey’ targeting potential clinets with a ‘prize’ of a short – 5 min departmental promptional video?

Don’t think you got my earlier replies
Hi Joel
I think you might not have received my earlier replies where I gave the e-mail address of an associate who I really think can help you (not me!)through her training programmes. Maybe somehow this was considered to be advertising, so apologies for that, if that’s the case.
If you’d like the information, please e-mail me and I’ll let you have it.
Best wishes
