Frustration at lack of tangible project work

I work in an IT development environment as a Programme Co-ordinator. In my previous position I had a team of 12 and had a project to run that I was very successful at and reached the targets set. However, since moving to this company, I find that I am producing reports and that is all. I would relish the opportunity to get into a project that I could control but I know I would get blocked by technical leads who don't want me to interfere in their area. My question therefore is, how do I get into a position where I can make use of my project management skills without being seen as taking over someone elses area and do something that I can see the results of without just doing reporting.

    Key questions is what does the business want?
    your title is clearly programme co-ordinator not project manager. Do they want one thing & you another?

    If you think that the company is ‘missing the point’ can you build a relationship with some of the ‘leads’ and when they start to recognise that things are getting out of control help them out in a way that they think it was their idea.

    Slowly build ground and a reputation for this – then eventually you will be brought in earlier & earlier into the cycle, until eventually you are project managing from the start.

    Alternativly consider changing company.

    thank you for your response. I have already started building a relationship with some of the team leads and am gaining a reputation as being very useful when it comes to reporting. I have spoken to a new coordinator with more experience and I have borrowed her career development plan she used to get where she is. It does involve relationship management and gives me a road map which I can use.
