Tools for Blended and E-Learning Content

default-16x9

Hi All:

I am looking for an authoring tool. Is anyone aware if Lectora, Macromedia Breeze, Articulate, and Outstart can create written Student guides along with a PowerPoint like presentation layer for an Instructor Guide? Does anyone recommend any other CMS or LMS tool that we might be able to use to create a blended approach to instruction that would include the ability to produce written materials now and e-learning in the future.

We are looking for a tool that we can use to single source our Student Guide (currently in Word with imbedded PowerPoint slides from Instructor Guide with the links broken to the original PP presentation) and our Instructor Guide (PowerPoint).

Thanks

  1. Lectora
Greg, I have used Lectora with relative ease (I’m a competent PowerPoint user) and had real success in creating programs. It will publish in a variety of formats and you should be able to create a branch in the learning which will give you both delegate and tutor functionality. I used a guy called Neil Lasher at Trainer1 for the supply of lectora and their service and suppoert has been second to none.

  2. Captivating
    Hi Greg,
I have found Macromedia captivate useful, it has lots of options including feeding into several LMS’s it can produce notes and multimedia interactive presentations and tests , It can integrate with powerpoint very easily for importing existing materials saving on rework check http://www.adobe.com/products/captivate/ for details

  3. Authoring Tools
Hi, we use all of the above tools. Articulate is an excellent tool and produces nicely compressed flash files which are quick to load. Currently special offer on which gets you their e-learning templates and quiz tool (which is very good) for $999. Found their quiz maker tool better than breeze but depends if this is a feature you want.

I have personally found Articulate scorm content very easy to use in an LMS like Moodle.

We are currently running a survey on these tools at http://www.kineo.co.uk. The survey closes in July, if you are still looking then mail me and I will send you the results.

  4. E-learning Authoring Tool
We recently bought Lectora and find it extremely easy to use and are very happy with the functionality. We currently use it stand alone to author to our intranet, but will be shortly linking it to our LMS, EKP from Net Dimentions, which is also fab!
