Does anyone have an exercise on determining what individuals think is the role of a Manager?

  2. role of a Manager
    Hi Sue
A nice simple exercise is to ask the following questions:
    Why do people perform?
    Why do people not perform?
    1. Split the group into small sub groups and get them to answer the questions on a flip chart.
    2. Debrief the answers (likely to be things like feeling valued, respected, give responsibility etc…)
    3. Then reviewing the list ask them to identify the role of the manager in creating this performace environment.
This exercise always creates a good quality output that can be refered back to time and time again.
If you would like to discuss further then feel free to call.

  3. Comparing manager and leader roles
    Hi Sue,
    I can offer two resources:
    1. John Kotter model comparing the role of manager with that of leader
    2. An exercise I call, “Match the Maxim with the Leader.” I will be happy to forward both to your email.

  4. Manager’s Role?
I hope this may be helpful?

Surely, in any well ordered organisation, if managers don’t know what their role is, nor their staff for that matter, there is surely something dreadfully awry?

And so not a matter for a group exercise, so much as an organisational dilemma far higher up the organisation?

Or did I miss something here Sue?

    Best wishes!

  5. Me too please!
