I am looking to publish our training guides electronically to 1200 users.
Has anyone any suggestions in what format they should be written and in what fornat they should be published. we have an intranet and I amy use this medium.

When you say format, do you mean HTML or how the guides would look for the end user? Assuming its the latter, having just worked on implementing a learning management system we faced similar questions. Do you have core competencies the 1200 users are measured on that you could categorise the training opportunities by?

As with all these things the answer is never simple – it depends on how people will access the guides (will they all be available on line and can everyone access the intranet?), what your IT infrastructure is (is it all PC based? What bandwidth is available?), Do you have a Learning Management System or other (document) management system? plus a host of others.
If I were you, and to keep things simple, I’d publish them in PDF format – you can achieve a good standard of document, which is easy to put together and which is accessible on most platforms and connections.

Publish or market?
Is your intention to simply get the guides across the network or market training within your organisation? If the former, PDF seems the logical format, if the latter, a simple to use, cheap web book publisher may be the answer. Using the medium
Are you intending on simply placing an electronic version of the guides online or are you considering converting the guides into more animated/interactive content to use the medium to it’s full potential? If you are looking at the former I would suggest a simple document management system, If the latter there is a myriad of options available!
