Online training software

default-16x9

Does anyone have any sugesstions for a reasonably priced software for designing online or CD rom training, something that can be purchased outright? I am an independent training consultant and can't afford thousands of dollars - I have searched but only found "full-service" online training companies. I don't need a host server, etc. just the ability to convert some of my courses to CD or online format (including a "test" portion).
Any leads are appreciated.

A simple and cost-effective authoring tool (try searching for authoring tools) is Seminar, from Information Transfer. It’s easy to use if you’re not a star with IT. It supports tests as well.

As far as I know there is no software for “designing online or CD rom training”.

There are two processes here, designing and building, and I’m not sure which one you want to do. Your exisitng training is also not likely to translate straight into online or CD ROM delivered content. You don’t say why you wish to do this.

There are plenty of web authoring tools, but the learning curve is steep.

The closest I’ve seen to a package that would do both is Lectorar, but this costs the best part of £1000. I did a test-drive on it and found it dissappointing for a programme costing so much; I also found that trying to achieve simple interactivity was rather convoluted.

As one of those providers of e-learning and CBT I can assure you that if there were a worthy programme out there for designing and delivering online and CD ROM content, then we’d be using it.

One of the things I would suggest is that you do a Google search for “Rapid e-learning”, this may give you more ideas along the lines in which you are trying to proceed.

Whatever you do, don’t dumb down your training just so that you can get it online or on CD ROM.

    Best of luck,
