Structured OJT Process

default-16x9

Has anyone experienced or implemented an effetive Structured OJT Process? I am dealing with a department of approx 120 people, how did you record and evaluate? were designated 'trainers' outlined before and trained in the necessary skills? was the process generic irelevant of whether the intervention was one-one or group sessions/meetings etc?

  1. Developing Coaches
    Hi Michelle
I implemented a OJT approach for a large law firm. We took a two prong approach. For admin staff we got volunteers and developed them in instructional techniques so that they could provide one on one IT training to professional and admin staff. They kept a record of any one to ones in a small booklet. I would facilitate a meeting with them every month to review progress.
Within the professional employees we developed coaching/mentoring sessions so that they became more aware of how they were training others and how to improve their approach. I used to meet with them every couple of months to review progress and share issues.
I would recommend getting a copy of “The Handbook of Work Based Learning” by Ian Cunningham. It is an excellent summary of the range of different approaches you can use to help create more learning on the job rather than training courses.
Let me know if you need more details
    Good luck with your project
