I am looking for some exercises I can use within a 1 day course on time management. Ideally the exercises will cover reflection, planning, doing and interacting. There are only 4 people on the course, all from management positions.
I do have one exercise called The Disoganized Manager, but am looking for alternatives.
Thanks in advance

Time Mgt:
Liz,
I’d be happy to share the Time Mgt: work I have written and sent to various Training Zone trainers.

Good visual exercise
For this exercise you will need a box with a lid and a variety of different sized & coloured balls, some soft & squashy, some hard.
Explain to the group that in front of them is a box, this represents their working day (7.5 hrs)
The box has a lid, this represents the time you should go home (5.30pm)
You will also see various balls, all different sizes, these represent the tasks/jobs you are given to complete in a working day.
There are too many balls for the box – the lid will not close.
What suggests do you have to overcome this dilemma?
Stress that there is no right or wrong answers, shout out whatever comes into your head. Jot these down on a flipchart for later.
Once they have dried up go through each suggestion linking to real life.
Suggestions will no doubt include;
1.Get a bigger box – representing making your day longer, not the best long term strategy.
2.Brute force, just squash them in – basically getting the work done at any cost, think about quality not quantity.
3.Take some balls out – if you just take them out & do nothing you are ignoring your workload but passing them to someone else takes you into the act of delegation…
4.Question which are more important – leads nicely into planning, to do lists etc.
5.Cut some in half – represents sharing a task or getting some help.
And so and so…
Hope you find it useful. I have used this exercise numerous times now and have found it to be very effective and always gets them thinking.
